Esk Valley
The Terraces Malbec Blend

Very high tannins. Initially very closed on the nose but opens up to a dark bouquet. Lots of dark fruits and a perfect match with Chateaubriand.

Sep 17th, 20132016 tasted 2020. Dark chocolate on the nose with some notes of chalk. Cassis and raspberry fruit on the front — but the fruit isn’t very intense. Medium tannic structure with a lot of calcaire incorporated into the soft mouth feel. This is a delicate wine all the way to the end. Lingering finish with an aftertaste that reminds of apricots.
Really, people, this is one of the best New Zealand reds I’ve ever tasted. I should have paid the customs fees and taken a bunch home with me.

Like every other pre 2005 NZ wine ive had, it needs some serious time in the decanter to reveal itself. This is still so young but seriously delicious. More Loire valley than Bordeaux.
