Ernie Els
Proprietor's Blend
A blend of 60% Cab Sauv, 20% Shiraz, 5% Merlot, 5% Cab Franc, 5% Malbec & 5% Petit Verdot. Aromas of rich berry fruits and sweet floral scents. On the palate blackberry and cherry flavors with oak, cacao and pepper spice. Fine tannins, savory, good balance, lingering ending with fruit and spice notes.

Jan 21st, 2019This was really enjoyable. I don't typical like South African wines, but this was very well balanced and you could taste the earthy yet dirt aspects of the wine in a good way.

Jan 25th, 2017Fresh off a Cabernet #KWN, and inspired by Neyer, what the heck, let's open a cab blend. Blackberry jam and a ton of pepper. Medium-bodied. A long, mouth-puckering finish, albeit a bit medicinal. The Merlot and Petit Verdot really soften this up nicely. However, the 20% Shiraz totally overpowers the 60% Cab. This is a really well made wine (though even at Costco you're paying a premium for the name). But if I wanted a Syrah, I'd open a Syrah. I don't think that flaw can, nor should, be overlooked.

Sep 25th, 2016Dark fruit, cassis, plum but a little green and tightly wound. Might improve with age, but just adequate acid in the finish makes me unsure about that.
