Erich Sattler
Burgenland St. Laurent
With air, the uni dimensions of currants & a fussier, tighter palate really blossoms into a more rounded, red cherry affair. Not the last word on complexity given this is entry level, but for 16/17$ it’s a nice deal. Terry thiesse & Skurnik, importer

Nice earthy red with dark cherry and plum tastes. Smells gamey on the nose with hints of dried tobacco leaves. Perfect for enjoying alone next to the fire or with a beef stew or dry rubbed ribs

1 person found it helpfulMar 8th, 2019As a lover of red wine, and a sucker for anything Austro-German, when I saw this bottle on the menu I became curious. If you’re like me and have never heard of the St. Laurent grape varietal, I researched to learn that it is a dark-skinned white grape offspring of the Pinot Noir and a second parent that is still unknown today. What does it all mean, though? Sattler puts together a beautiful red that is both savory and spicy, big and bold. This organic wine gives notes of dark cherry, tobacco, raspberry, and peppercorn. If you’re looking for an Austrian wine to sample, I can’t think of a better place to start than here.

Dec 1st, 2022Like a thin graphite line drawn through a reduction of plums and earth dashed with peppercorns. Does that count as a poem?

Aug 23rd, 2020Hints of Raspberry but not very fruit forward. Enjoyable by the glass or with food. A red from Austria with a screw top. Would buy again

Feb 2nd, 2020Juicy fresh blackberries. Some organic manure thing especially on the nose, but I dont find it off putting. I only wish the finish was a little longer and more structured, but damn this wine is chuggable.
