Emmanuel Darnaud
Saint Joseph Syrah
Ridiculous. So intense. Flowers. Deep. So intense. So pure. So young.

Mar 4th, 2018Emmanuel Darnaud is a brilliant winemaker. This is his father in law, Bernard Faurie's old vine parcel. Soaring nose of grilled meats, olives, a hint of hickory smoke, very complex. Granite minerality in the background. Floral. Really nice. Palate is beautiful. Dark fruits. Juicy and gets to every nook and cranny. Seamless and elegant but with hidden power and such refined tannins. Really nice granitic expression on the finish. Long finish. Has years to go, but by no means is inaccessible today. Terrific wine.

Jun 3rd, 2017Emmanuel puts the Lieu-Dit on the bottle starting in 2015 as he believes he finally gets the terroir. Oh boy does he. Wow. Intense and amazing. Granite everywhere. Wow. So deep, so sweet, extraordinary. Wow. Wow.

Mar 16th, 2017Day 1 (9.0): structured and dense with a certain finesse to its individual elements. Meaty, spicy, and layered with burnt aromas of coffee, leather, and earth. Dark fruits prevail but they seems muted and somewhat awkward. No expert but I am assuming this wine will be quite lovely by day2/3. Day 2: mocha, blueberries, iron, roasted herbs, smoked meat.
