Twenty years old with heady aromas of caramel, toffee, and dried fruit, lightened by lively acidity and still gripping tannins. Drunk and enjoyed with lamb chops.

Opened at 2:30. Double decanted just prior to dinner. Tight and tannic. Took awhile to coax it out of its shell. Went great with porcini rubbed antelope steaks. My 1500th wine on Delectable!!

October 2018: Nose is excellent, palate still young, wait 5 yrs? Revisited, another bottle opened Oct 14, 2020, Slow ox 1 hour in the bottle. Very mature, off peak, in blind tasting was mistakenly identified as its brother, Case Mate 1998, the former being very mature with nice nose and black fruits - as the Case Mate presumingly should be - while the latter showed up very young and more towards red fruits. Presumably, should have been vice versa. What a turnaround - 2 years between the two bottles opened! Drink Up!

Will be interesting to see how this evolves. Great aromatics and fruit on entry. Keeps going mid palate with a nice finish.
