Elderton
E Series Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon
This was a failed export order to China for highly respected Barossa winery Elderton complete with Chinese labelling. I bought 2 dozen for $190 AUD delivered. The wine was fresh and aromatic with raspberry overtones - a great mid week quaffer. Recent developments in China have very negative consequences for the Australian wine industry. The CCP has imposed varying tariffs on different companies stating they are guilty of dumping cheap wine. Grange at $800 a bottle??? Treasury Wine Estates the owners of Penfolds have had a tariff of 169.3% imposed on their exports. China accounts for 30% of Treasury’s earnings and demand going forward will be extremely limited. Sadly I feel this will make life very difficult for smaller wineries in the future. Totally unnecessary and unfair on the Australian wine industry.
