Presents treacle, coffee grinds and cedar on the nose. Oddly enough, there’s a hint of grapefruit on the mid palate. It’s not a distraction, but quite uncommon. Moderate density supports maraschino cherries and ripe tannins. Great overall structure suggests that this will sail on for a few more years, but it’s peaking now.

This is a terrific wine, somewhere between Bordeaux and California in its personality. The balance is striking with rich, seamless tannins framing gorgeous black fruit with blackberry, black cherry, cassis, and black plum plus forest floor, pencil shavings, cedar and vanilla. The wine has a long, satisfying finish and never loses its poise. Wonderful.

This in our opinion is arguably the best 2nd wine coming out of Napa. It puts many first bottlings in the shade.
Very well crafted and not overdone. Balance, weight and texture are deftly poised. Sweet and aromatic cherries combine with robust tannins, and a glorious lengthy finish.
Happy new year to one and all!

First time trying this, and we are both impressed.
The nose displays syrup and fresh tobacco. This leads into soft, round oak treatment on the palate. Black fruits dominate, with moderate tannins. Acid is soft and submerged. Finishes sweet, textured with an extended finish. This has a pedigree for sure.

Needed a good 2 hour decant for it to mellow a bit. Dark purple fruit with a solid but not overdone concentration. Deep but not that much complexity. Very enjoyable though.
