When I first opened the bottle I was concerned it would not open until dinner was over.. After an hour in the decanter, the tell tale Vatan signs of weight, balance and spearmint began to emerge. Truly strutting it’s stuff at the 2 plus hour mark.

Sep 28th, 2021By request, decanted just under 2 hours before first taste. This was absolutely perfect as it allowed it to skip the stage where Vatan can often show its alcohol. Instead, it went right to the awesome explosion of tropical flavors that Vatan enthusiasts know and love. It’s intensely perfumed and layered with ripe guava, mango, banana, newly bloomed lilies and a touch of fresh herbs. It’s exceptionally deep and has such presence on the midpalate with its waxy weighty texture along with terrific cut before its long and energized finish.
By request, decanted just under 2 hours before first taste. This was absolutely perfect as it allowed it to skip the stage where Vatan can often show its alcohol. Sep 24th, 2021Pretty incontestably considered to be the very best Sancerre, and it did indeed show its singularity. It’s intensely tropical and perfumed with a waxy and weighty texture. Shows ripe tropical fruit, banana, lilies, savory herbs and a touch of alcohol but it doesn’t detract and subsides with air. It’s exceptionally deep and has such presence on the midpalate with great cut and a seamless transition to finish. There is so much material here and it clearly is built to age, and definitely needs plenty of time in the decanter as it showed best after 2 hours.

This is the Sancerre which makes my heart beat faster. Hauntingly elegant, and vibrantly resplendent. Vatan is on it.

This is spectacular on the nose. Big but refined with lime, anise, melon, cool slate. The texture is great- rounded, succulent and polished. The minerality and length is something else. Truly the Raveneau of Sancerre. Wonderful.
