Aromas of Spice Pepper Cherry and Mineral (Ironstone soils). Medium to full bodied with an elegant tannin structure. Lacking the ripe fruit flavours of a Barossa Shiraz because of its cool climate continental origins. From Gundagai in Southern NSW near the Canberra District.

Won the Trophy for Best Shiraz at the National Wine Show 2012. Fruit from the Gundagai region and starting to put this region on the map. Peppery red fruits and starting to develop some leather notes at 7 years. A nice counterpoint to the lush Barossa styles showing the versatility of Shiraz.

Expected more of the 2012 National Wine Show Trophy winner for Shiraz although at $15 great QPR. Cool climate continental Shiraz from the developing Gundagai district- similar terroir to nearby Canberra district. Aromatic spicy nose - medium weight minerally palate with moderate length. Short term collaring.

So, grow at high elevation, pick a little earlier and lose the new oak - that's Shiraz that hits my sweet spot. Quiet but elegant, restrained but offering intriguing depth, and closer to St. Joseph than Barossa. Wish there were more Aussie imports like this.

Lightness and austerity seem to be their trademark. That being said, an "austere" Shiraz is a pretty lovely and graceful one--chocolate bing cherry cordial, a little earth spice, just glides across the palate.

Light but balanced. Always like Murrumbateman wines.
