Opened to celebrate my son’s 15th birthday. Poured alongside the 2006 Caravina. This wine pours a deep garnet with a semi translucent core no obvious signs of age. Medium+ viscosity. On the nose, medium+ intensity with notes of tobacco, desiccated cherry, black cherry, black currant, purple flowers, green bell pepper, leather and baking spice. On the palate, confirming the dark fruits with cherries, currants, leather, leaf tobacco, Szechuan peppers and baking spice. The finish is so long and savory. the wine is dry, medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. The tannins are still pretty gritty. The finish is long and satisfying. This still has many good years ahead of it.

This is singing straight away right now. Blueberry pie, tobacco, leather, green pepper, violets, and mushrooms. These probably have the legs to last a few more years but why wait?

Decanted for sediment. Whoa! There’s a touch of brett! Dark cherries, cassis, raspberries, horse blanket on the nose. Tart cherries and earth on the palate. Awesome with food. Sooooo old world. Would have never picked this as a California meritage, blind. Wonderful work from Gus Anderson...even if the brettanomyces wasn’t intended. Charming stuff.

Small group for this month's WTF wine meet up, so why not hit up Fort Worth's best BYOB?

As soon as I gave this a whiff, I knew a fair bit of cab franc was incorporated. No green pepper, though. Leather, raspberries, kirsch, and a touch of cedar on the nose. At a point in its life where it's mimicking Bordeaux at best it can. The body and finish have very little tannic grip. Dirty cherries, and fig leaves. Thanks for bringing Bill!

A pleasant surprise. The cab franc really added a lovely perfume. Soft. Feminine.

Good wine. A little flat spot but then comes back on the finish.

One of the better red blends that I've had, especially for the 2010 vintage. This was WTSO special, and I'm glad I jumped on it. Was a steal for a high end wine.
