Another monthly WTF Group meet up. Northern Rhône vs Southern Rhône, blind as usual.

Want to learn more about northern Rhône wines? This is the wine for you. Wasn’t overly full of bloody game meat and olive tapenade on the nose, but the palate was still darker fruit dominant with a bit of smoked cedar.

Quite nice. Well made. Good balance of acidity and fruit. Ripe tannins too.

2009. More meaty and resolved than the 2010. Less sweetness. Smoked bacon, tending toward black fruit, black pepper, cloves, graphitey, mineral, tobacco. More structure and body than the 2010. Entering a savoury, meaty phase. Long length. Darker, more brooding. Not as acidic or fresh as the 2010 however. Serious.

Blackberry, raspberry, and garrigue on the nose. Classic Côte‑Rôtie but quite well made. Drinking nicely now.

I've waited a long time to try this. My Xmas present to myself.

More blonde in style than brune. Roasted red plums, lilacs, red cherries on the nose. The palate is balanced with a core of red fruits and well integrated notes of meat, garrique, smoke and red currants. Can be enjoyed now or later with further cellaring.
