Opened and decanted ~30 min. Cherries for days, earthy, fantastic balance, still very fresh at 15yrs. Sweet oak and dried black currant finish. Another beauty from Randy & Mike.

Monthly WTF group recap. Theme this month was “bring something special”. Normally we taste all of the wines blind, but we decided to do a relaxed night with amazing wines at a great restaurant. Spectacular evening!

One of my favorite producers, and likely just entering its prime window (where I imagine it will hold for a decade or so). The profile here is dense yet soft and round. Gorgeous aromatics of baked fig and ripe blackberry with pencil shavings and cassis. Black cherry jam, graham cracker, violets and dusty traits on the palate. Such a delicious wine right now. Thanks

The 2005 Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon is a total gem from Dunn which is showing absolutely phenomenal after nearly 15 years. This instantly impresses with stunning aromatics of dark currants and back cherries which are laced with Indian spices, bell peppers, tobacco and some underlying earthy tones that all come together and soar from the glass. On the palate this possesses an absolutely gorgeous mouthfeel, with big polished tannins that are beautifully integrated into the solid frame. It displays stunning balance, as layers of ripe dark fruits and savory characteristics expand seamlessly through the lavish finish. While the 2005 is showing impeccably well at this juncture, however there is no sense of urgency to start pulling the cork, as it should have at least another decade or two of peak drinking to offer.

Why can't we get back to this style of wine making again? Excellent wine, balanced and the flavor profile is put if this world.

I had an '07 earlier this year and I felt bad for drinking it...it needed more bottle time. But only a two year difference for this '05 and it felt just right surprisingly. Will drink well over the next 5-7. Mountain wines are my favorite and this one is a great example...graphite, blueberries, cassis and Sage.

This wine is just absurdly harmonious and amazing for its price. Id take this cab over most, its at the right age for my taste. Lamb with chimichurri was a treat with it.

3rd time's a charm! This baby is beautiful right now. Rich red fruit and intense earthy floral aromatics keep evolving. Power and spice on the palate, but dances about elegantly. Like one of those football players on "Dancing with the Stars".
