Dr. Loosen
Ürziger Würzgarten Kabinett Mosel Riesling
Lemon, lemongrass, mint, white grapefruit, peach, yoghurt…this was a sublime young Riesling and my first from the bracing, cool, high-acid 2021 vintage. The finest of Erni Loosen’s I’ve tried to date.

Feb 23rd, 2023Clean mineral spring water and various tree fruit. The palate is subtle and elegant. It finishes longer than the power of the nose or palette would predict.

Apr 11th, 2021Absolutely beautiful! Heavily aromatic, with granny Smith apple, peach, ginger, lime peel and wet stone. A touch of petillance. It glides over the palate with a heavenly lightness of touch, gorgeous width and a dusting of icing sugar. The acidity follows through to the long and pleasing off-dry finish.

Dec 14th, 2020Another Dr. Loosen Kabinett, this time from Graacher Himmelreich, that after my foray into German Riesling a few weeks ago I was very excited to try. The conditions were laid of a Wednesday evening, a ‘send-off’ meal for my sister before she departed for university, and she elected for us to have an Indian takeaway. And hence, one of my most memorable food pairings was conceived: this wine, with fish pakora and raita sauce. No joke. Genuinely phenomenal. The wine continued to pair well with the main course and was beautiful on its own after the dinner. Notably less sweet, I thought, than the 2018 Wehlener, and totally quaffable.
Hook me up to this stuff on an IV drip.

Nicely developed Kabinett. For my taste this is in a very nice spot - some tertiary flavours but still very lively and light.

May 11th, 2015I was expecting this to be a little more aromatic. The primaries are fading and the tertiaries are just developing. This is maybe a bottle to hold & revisit in a couple of years. Beautiful palate & sugar/acid balance.
