Dr. Heidemanns-Bergweiler
Pinot Noir
Mosel, Germany

Bright and clear garnet ruby. Initially shy nose of black cherry and weak tea. Medium-light palate echoes the nose. Medium minus tannins. Medium plus acidity. Short finish. German reds are improving. This shows much better than reds from just ten years back. Serve with pork, salmon, or light to medium vegetarian fare.

Not a good representation of Spatburgunder at all.
A shame we cannot get any decent Germanic red over here..

Ruby color with red fruit aromas and soft spice. On the palate cherry and red berry flavors, well balanced with tannins and acidity. Not overly complex. Easy drinking. Tasting Sample.

Light red in color.
On the nose, strawberries, cherries and tart cranberries.
Light bodied.
On the pallet, strawberries, slate, wet stone and tart cherries.
Medium finish with tart aftertaste.
12.5 percent alcohol by volume.
This German Pinot Noir from Mosel is not my taste. Not sophisticated or interesting.
This 4 year old might be too old and lost its character.

Dr. Heidemanns-Bergweiler – Pinot Noir 2022
Mosel – Germany 🇩🇪
Overview
100% Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder in Germany), grown in the cool Mosel climate where slate soils are more often associated with Riesling. This delicate red captures the finesse of the varietal with a distinctly German touch, light-bodied, elegant, and refreshingly pure.
Aromas & Flavors
Fresh red cherries and wild strawberries open the bouquet, followed by cranberry, rose petals, and a hint of earthiness. The palate is smooth and silky, with subtle spice and a whisper of minerality from the Mosel terroir.
Mouthfeel
Light to medium-bodied with fine tannins, bright acidity, and a clean, refreshing finish. A Pinot Noir that emphasizes grace and subtlety rather than power.
Food Pairing
Ideal with roasted chicken, pork tenderloin, grilled salmon, or mushroom-based dishes. Also an excellent choice for charcuterie boards or lighter cheeses.
Verdict
An elegant German Pinot Noir showing precision and freshness. For those who love Pinot’s lighter, more ethereal side, this bottle is a delightful discovery. If you’re used to California’s Pinot this may be too light, but I found it refreshingly good. Cheers!
Did you know?
Though Germany is best known for Riesling, Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder) is now the country’s most planted red grape. The Mosel’s steep slate vineyards provide not only minerality to whites but also elegance and lift to reds like this one.
