Donnachiara
Irpinia Aglianico
Dark, glass-clinging red purple. Lightly inviting nose and medium bodied palate of fresh blackberry and slightly underripe blueberry. Juicy medium plus acidity right from entry (it’s Italian, after all) and medium tannins that softly assert starting mid-palate. Medium short, dark finish. I started at the top with Donnachiara’s Taurasi Riserva, so this is obviously a third string offering. Still, a wonderful introduction to southern Italy’s best kept secret variety. Bold, dark fruit that will be at home in a wide variety of situations, from hearty beef or casserole dishes to medium and harder cheeses to simple delivery or frozen pizza. Drink this now and sit on that Taurasi for a couple of years.

Beautiful ruby. Cherry. Intense tannins and a bit young. Smoothed out after 30 minutes. Spice starts to come out over time
