Donnachiara – Fiano di Avellino “Empatia” 2022
Campania, Italy 🇮🇹 – DOCG

Overview
Empatia translates to empathy in Italian — a name chosen to reflect Donnachiara’s philosophy of making a wine that connects deeply with both terroir and drinker. As an elevated expression of Fiano, it’s crafted from select vineyards and offers more body and aromatic depth than their classic bottling. A modern take on one of Campania’s most historic grapes.

Aromas & Flavors
Elegant layers of honeysuckle, pear, and golden apple with hints of hazelnut, chamomile, and a touch of honeyed citrus. The nose feels expansive yet refined, showing the grape’s full complexity.

Mouthfeel
Rich yet fresh, with a medium-plus body and lively acidity. The texture is slightly waxy, adding depth, while the finish is long and mineral-driven with subtle almond notes.

Food Pairing
Perfect with seafood risotto, grilled swordfish, aged cheeses, or herb-infused chicken. Also shines with Mediterranean vegetarian dishes like eggplant parmigiana or zucchini blossoms.

Verdict
A thoughtful, elegant Fiano that embodies its name — Empatia. It bridges heritage and modern precision, connecting emotion with flavor in every sip. Beautiful now, but capable of rewarding cellaring for another 3–5 years. Cheers!

My first Fiano, from the only Fiano DOCG of Avellino.
Nose a bit muted initially, then shows lime zest, orange blossom, Asian pear, and hint of quince as it warms up in the glass. High acidity on the palate, with underlying chalky minerals. Good weight and texture. I did not detect any hazelnut that Fiano is famed for.
About 5,000 bottles made. Might be too young to show properly.

Pear, some honeysuckle, or maybe its melon I'm picking up. Good acidity.
