Rosso di Montalcino Sangiovese

Fresh and delicious, this is a pure quaffing-style RdM. It was great with my pizza tonight. Buckets of ripe strawberries and cherries on the nose, with a mid-toned floral note and lots of fragrant cracked stones. Brambly slightly bitter-edged cherry fruit in the mouth, with just a scoche of tannin. Acids are soft but adequate. A fun pizza wine!

Needs a days to fully reveal itself. Then: Kapow! Will be excited to try in five years.

Quite nice Sangiovese with Pat’s spaghetti ($20). Dark fruit and firm tannins.

Ripe fruit and soft acids ($20). Wonderful with Pat’s spaghetti.

An appropriate accompaniment to Pat’s lasagna ($20). Fruity and flavorful.

Light, easy drinking, complex with notes of cherry and vanilla with slightly earthy tones. Dryer and slightly acidic. Fabulous wine.

Pure essence of light, sweet cherry, fresh, light, enticing, with just a sprinkle of dried herbs and a mineral, crushed rock character and a green stalk whiff. Surprisingly light & aetheric. Almost in the same spectrum as a Poulsard or Vernatsch.
On the palate this is pure, light, fresh, with grippy, sappy tannins and brilliant acidity. A bit too light and hollow on the mid palate and slightly too green & vegetal. And lacking the balsamic, tomato leaf characteristics of Sangiovese. Is this an odd bottle?
So strange… yet still, somehow delightful.
