Younger than expected color. Good weight and vibrancy in the glass. Notes of tea, dried rose petals and soy in the nose. Nice fruit and finish. This has plenty of life ahead of it.

Despite decanting this wine was massive. Presented with inky purple and touch of brown. Huge bouquet with smoky meat, toasted mushroom and tobacco. Powerful tannins in mouth distorted the balance until it been served for 4 hours. This was the essence of Barolo with charcoal and meaty weight in mouth. My sense was that this wine was at its peak and yet still might hold its structure for another decade or so.

Mature Barolo with everything you would expect from the varietal. Tobacco, leather and a touch of cherry. Still has legs so not done yet. An outstanding bottle.

A suave monster, probably on its last legs before decline. It was right to drink it now. A classic old-school Barolo, and the last by Clerico- the next year he started experimenting with barriques.
