Hard to rate this. Enjoyed the experience of tasting but it was flawed. A little flabby in my opinion. Fruit remained but nothing else showed through.

As ready as it's ever going to be. Nutty, brown, complex, long. Balanced acidity and fruit , brown is beautiful...

Enjoyed with cheesecake and fresh berries on the back deck

An interesting, but difficult wine. The nose is just stunning: it oozes pineapple, honey, and roasted nuts; extremely aromatic. On the palate, things are a little more complicated. Very dark, almost bourbon in color: I might guess this is oxidized, but it is unctuous and thick, with loads of papaya and pineapple. I was expecting this to be sweeter than it was: it finishes with a roasted fruit character, like the sugar has been slightly attenuated. Noticeably less sweet than the '98 which I had recently. Maybe with the right food pairing this would work well, but it didn't quite work with pecan pie...
