Alsace Gewürztraminer

Last night was the Confrerie St. Etienne Spring dinner. It was my first time attending. This is a chapter of the original group out of Alsace, France, and is the only chapter here in the US...just happens to be in my neck of the woods! Great introduction to Alsace wines.

Gewürztraminer! This was paired alongside miscellaneous cheese, jelly, and a mouth watering honeycomb (as my wife said, "I feel like I just ate a bee's home). Possibly my favorite pairing of the night. I was always curious to try a wine like this against a Riesling wondering if I could tell the difference. I saved some of my Riesling and tried side by side...the Gewürztraminer was my choice and bursted forth with candied almonds, orange and honey.

Slightly sweet, crisp pear, unripe white peach, hints of limestone

I'm gonna quote Marcello Mastrioanni in La Dolce Vita when he whispers into Sylvia's ear while they dance. ( soft saxophone playing) " You're everything, you know that you're everything. The first woman of creation. You're the mother, the sister, the lover, the friend, the Angel, the devil, the earth, the home. What am I to do now? Go back to where your from, please. What am I suppose to do now?" Not the smartest wine but definitely the sexiest. A soft and perfumed bosom wrapped in mink coat. A blonde bombshell.

SO2 high for pH indicating intention to age the wine. While this mutes the wine, beautiful lychee, rose, tangerine, and guava come through.

Not rare or anything, but such a solid standby.

Pleasantly dry and viscous. Aromatics!

Nee cuvee “Les Treilles du Loup”. Nearly dry. Woow!

Succulent peach and white flowers; very delicious.

Spicy bubblegum and candied orange flavors on a powerful and austere palate. Reserve personelle bottling 2015.
