Domaine Santa Duc
Clos Derrière Vieille Gigondas Red Rhone Blend

Focused, fine, neatly wound and delineated from front to back. The tension and detail give the impression it will last. Well fruited and spiced, its tannins show the strength of the vintage.

Lifted and elegant, has a high elevation profile with its acid but a lower elevation side with its ripeness and warmth. Carries with it rich red/black fruit, pine, roast beef, coffee grind, undertones of pastille, herbs, and rocks. There’s a layer of brett that is so beautiful, spiced, savory, working well. Reminds me of Chave brett, so alluring. There’s a kiss or reduction but generous air blew it off. Inaugural vintage for this cool site, cant wait to crack the 2015 soon.

Mar 1st, 2020Fresh & bright.
Grenache red fruit glory with raspberries, some dusty undergrowth, a bit of renclode plum, lebenden, rosemary, baked hot earth. Fresh & aromatic.
Poised, balanced, fresh & juicy. So drinkable. Juicy tannins, bright acidity, juicy, crunchy red fruit. But also depth, character, flow.
A brilliant wine, great value for money, too!

Sep 11th, 2022Uplifting, eatheric essence of fresh raspberry, fresh wild strawberries with a slight herbal, earthy whiff.
Medium bodied on the palate, with a crisp, crunchy tannic frame, juicy, fruity red fruit acidity and an earthy undertone. There’s a subtle note of bubblegum on the mid palate and yet the finish retains a savoury freshness.
Surprisingly light for a Gigondas and highly enjoyable.

Tart cranberry, dark cherry, black tea. Smooth and well balanced.

One of the very best I’ve had from Gigondas. Dark red fruit with medium body. Touch of cedar and spices.
