Domaine Saint-Damien
Gigondas Red Rhone Blend
The 2012 Saint-Damien Gigondas is seduction in a glass. A walled-in garden of lilacs and lavender, huckleberries, dried mint and dusty earth that offers both concentration and finesse. There is ample structure here, amid velvet layers of ripe plum, subtle gaminess, iron and ox blood and a lovely black pepper note on the finish. Accessible now, but certainly a wine that will continue to improve with cellaring—a nice pairing with braised lamb shank. 14.5% ABV

1 person found it helpfulSep 11th, 2015Medium Ruby. Medium intensity with raspberry and saddle leather notes - still developing. On the palate savoury raspberry notes with medium drying tannins. Full bodied of good quality. Can drink now with the potential to age.

Jul 26th, 2016Nice lifted aromatics at first, but then the paste Brett takes over. If you like Brett funk this is great. If you don't, it goes down the sink.

Apr 2nd, 2017Had at Wolvesmouth, but was from SLW. I liked more than S. A little funky, a little thin. Probably more Grenache, or fewer other grapes, than other Gigondas.

Oct 31st, 2015Semi transparent burgundy in color, smells of nail polish, rubber, cigar, cinnamon, prosciutto, pepper, orange peel, violet, coriander, medium body with a savory sweetish aftertaste from a long finish.
