Domaine Robert Chevillon
Vieilles Vignes Nuits-Saint-Georges Pinot Noir
2013 | Pinot Noir
Domaine Robert Chevillon; Village Vieilles Vignes
Burgundy; Côte de Nuits, Nuits-Saint-Georges, France
(91-93; drink 2028-38)
Lots of powerful cherry and stem-like notes from a standard vintage, not a glass I'd pass over.
Paired to duck confit (D'Artagnan) over green/red lentils with a hit of Dijon mustard to get the acid balance to perfection.

Tricky blind. No consensus on the table on its origin. I thought it was non-French. Reduction on the nose. Powerful and structured with almost glossy dark fruits.
Fruit-forward with some orange rind, meat, and chalk in the back end. A big Pinot, but with enough acid to bring about some juiciness. It was reminiscent of some of the more “elegant” Pinot’s of Australia if you ask me. This new style of Chevillon (more approachable?) really tripped me up.

My last bottle of 2012 Robert Chevillon Nuits Saint George
caught at a stage on its maturing curve, where the red fruit turns to dried fruit, rose petal is being backed by autumn leaves followed by sous bois and a dash of earthy spice. Lovely indeed!

2012: superb performance, caught at its peak of maturity with a great balance where the primary fruit lies on par with the defined tertiary characters. Good intensity on the palate, an evolving complexity on both nose and palate,

Jan 29th, 2019A very good quality wine, showing both Provenance and dept with a defined souboise character. The concentrated fruit profile going from red to darker fruit with time in the glass. In its early stage of development with enough primary fruit and structure to continue and upward going curve for another 5+ years.

Feb 19th, 2018Tasted blind. Sight: slightly cloudy deep wine purple core going garnet with orange highlights and clear meniscus, 10-15 years old. Fairly high alcohol. Nose: old world funk and secondary bottle bouquet. Smells like older Burgundy but the color is very extracted for Pinot Noir. Perhaps a very good year, producer, or both. Taste: very fresh red raspberry with slightly earthy overtones at the finish. Fruit character rules out Sangiovese, Gamay, Tempranillo. Going with a very good producer of Burgundy from the 2005 or 2002 vintage. I'm not good enough to say Nuits or Beaune. I could drink this wine all day.
