The 1999 Clos de la Roche VV pours a slightly hazy ruby color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with gorgeous notes of ripe red and black fruits: raspberry, bruised strawberry, black cherry, dried red flowers, licorice, mushroom, sous bois, all spice. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and dripping with complexity. During the first couple hours, this was pretty locked up and willing to share its secrets. Towards the end of the night, this ended up being one of the wines what really started to pour it on. My favorite pairing with the boeuf Bourguignon. Drink now with some patience but better after 2029 and through 2049 with ease.

Definitely the best bottle of this we have had - and unfortunately our last! No decant, but let this “slow ox” for several hours. Fun wine to cap off the week of our son’s first birthday. Dusty rose and some lovely earthy red fruit on the nose - almost like cherries or strawberries growing in a mushroom patch. Exquisite mouthfeel - hits every part of the mouth, perfect acid, great length, exceptionally seamless. Really one of the best wines I’ve had, ever. Paired with a simple roast chicken with mushrooms cooked in the chicken drippings.

Last bottle of this that we had was about 2 years ago. I think we may have 1-2 left. Definitely no need to wait more, this is in a prime spot. Absolutely beautiful aromatics. So pure and mouth filling and just the hint of secondary fruit starting to poke through. Extremely balanced with beautiful refreshing acid on the finish. Finish itself goes on for quite a while. Excellent pairing with a buttermilk brined roast chicken. What a treat.

Really disappointing, it finished abruptly and unpleasantly.

Truly excellent. What a wine. Great drinking window and wouldn’t mind trying in 3-5 years as well. A 1998 Lignier Clos de la Roche is one of the wines that impacted me the most, and was very excited to try Ponsot. Very pure and precise but quite hedonistic. Incredibly mouth filling with a very, very long finish. Excellent balance and mouthfeel. Simply delicious.
