Cuvée De Mon Aïeul Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend

Reddish tawny color, translucent. Exotic herbal nose. Notes of cherry kirsch, herbs de provence, strawberries, dark soil. High pitched fruit in the mouth. Very Grenache. Chewy with some pucker. Good acidity for an 03. A bit over the top and not my style.

Dark ruby with a hint of brownish red. High pitched nose offering ripe plums, herbs, and a sort of medicinal type thing. Sweet fruit and heat with not so much structure in the mouth. Over the top wine, representative of the vintage's hot weather. Not my style of CdP.

Still vibrant at 18 years old though I wouldn’t hold for much longer. Currant and blackberry with smoked meats and black tea. Finish is quite long with fairly prominent tannins.

A few years too old but still lovely. Good color for its age. Gentle stewed fruit flavor

Over the hill. I’m not a huge CDP fan, but this was overwhelmed with prunes and plums, and had an unattractive brownish hue to it. Way too sweet and somewhat thin. Not undrinkable, but did pour 1/3 of the bottle out.

A real treat! Just what you want from a CdP. Smoked meats, with licorice on the finish. Beautiful!
