Domaine Morey-Coffinet
Les Caillerets Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay
Burgundy night. Started off with a nice champagne followed by a Cali roussanne to calibrate the palates.
Most Napa-esque of the white burgundy’s we had. Butterscotch and honeyed cashews on the nose. Very rich. Grilled cantaloupe on the palate.

The message in this bottle is: “disappointing and not aging well”. As much as ‘Caillerets’ should be a great terroir and 2014 a great vintage, this is not delivering, lacks acidity and backbone, there is some nice ripe fruit but a wine that is heavy and not refreshing or balanced, at least not for this great Chassagne 1er cru terroir.
Un vin qui ne vieillit pas bien, acidité déficiente et un vin un peu ‘lourdeau’ et avec peu de fraîcheur. Dommage car c’est un superbe terroir et un excellent millésime classique.

The colour is fairly dark and pronounced which shows a little bit the amount of new wood more so then premox. The nose is very aromatic, caramel, some ripe yellow fruit. The palate follows the same path, ripe and still oaky, acidity on the low side slightly that makes it a bit too heavy at this stage. En Caillerets is a great Terroir that needs time, but in this case I had more fun with the 2014’s from this producer. 88-89 pts for me

Day 1 was very restrained and muted on palate. Corked and pulled it back out Day 2 which was fabulous. White flowers and fruit on nose. White fruits and lemon with 20sec finish. Very good but will hold for 5yrs

Jun 13th, 2019Great great white chassagne! Very complex nose, mineralic palate and very long and nice aftertaste. Like this producer very much

Feb 24th, 2018Caramel and oak. Reminds me of whisky out of the bottle. Honey and gritty.

Sep 24th, 2016Very nice and approachable upon opening. Well balanced and lingers on the palate for a long finish. However, seems to keep only its acidic profile after 2 hours or so.. Not sure if it is due to a change in glass.

Sep 18th, 2016Monolithic/balanced. Soft palate, some nutty lemon and a little fruit. Chalky minerality. Not as expressive as 1er Cru Bruno Colin Chassagne from same vintage, but less awkward.
