Domaine Méo-Camuzet
Clos du Chapître Fixin 1er Cru Pinot Noir

Delicious, but missed the mark with typicity again - like the 14’ we had not too long ago, this 17’ was missing that fine minerality associated with this cuvée. Affected by the long journey from France perhaps? Drank fine with flavours focused around creamy dark berries and spicy, earthy nuances. Finely textured, medium-bodied and balanced, albeit a little straightforward at the moment.

There were others on the table that fancied this, but it wasn't my favourite. I just found the wood on the nose too distracting, and it seemed to have the least clarity of the lot. Having said, it's still a wine I would drink over a typical Rioja or Bordeaux say. The palate's quite elegant with a mix of red and black berries plus earthy elements, though all a touch blurred. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and tangy acids. Medium finish. Oddly, there was little to no minerality, which this vineyard's supposedly known for. Could be in a dumb phase of cellaring.

Ready to drink this 2008 with cherry, eucalyptus, white pepper. Nicely complex with grippy tannins.

Charming, sweet with strawberries. No edges, no dryness, well structured. Very fine

Very nice choice from the somm at the Modern. Excellent red fruit, some good earth, mouth filling and delicious. Perfect with suckling pig and chicken with foie. Nice value for burgundy for sure.
