Domaine Jean-Louis Chave
J.L. Chave Sélection Farconnet Hermitage Syrah
Rad already. It’s baby’s first Hermitage and baby is no longer in the corner! She’s dancing in the...well her home. To Sia. I adore Syrah and although I bet in a few years this will take on some meatier old leather notes and maybe the tannins will knit together more I like it a little rough. This wine is sexy stubble. It’s roughing me a little at the same time as handing me toast with blackberry jam and an iced mocha. Meow Hermitage.

I’m sorry but this wine for me was rather rustic and for the price I would not buy it again. The tannins were a little coarse and the finish was just medium. The aromas were more about the leather and earth and less about the fruit or spice. I have been fortunate enough to drink some great Crozes-Hermitage and small producers from Cote-Rotie lately that I believe are higher quality at lower prices. In short, if you buy this thinking you’re getting #Chave #Hermitage at a bargain price...you’re not.

1 person found it helpfulFeb 7th, 2021The thing about Monsieur Chave’s wines is the paradox of density, concentration, and same time finesse and elegance. This is a great example. Dark berries, flowers and a fresh tone that makes you want more each sip. Soo good now, but will get better over time. Please decant if you drink before 2025. Enthusiastically recommended.
