“Grand Chaliot” is actually a lieu-dit in Nuits-Saint-Georges and more singular expression compared to their “standard” Bourgogne. Popped and poured, enjoyed over two hours. The Grand Chaliot pours a dark ruby, with a translucent core. Medium viscosity. Medium+ intensity. On the nose, the initial impression is a bit like a dusty barnyard…with black cherry and blackberry preserves. There’s a bit of a purple “Now & Laters” thing too. Kinda fun actually. On the palate, the fruit is darker profiled than most; quite in-line with Lignier’s style. Lovely minerals with a touch of forest floor too. Lovely acid (medium+) and fairy pronounced tannin too! Finish is dry and has a bitterness that reminded me of walnut skin. I adore these wines.

Popped and poured; enjoyed with cedar plank salmon. The 2017 Hubert Lignier "Grand Chaliot" is about as representative of 2017 Pinot Noir from Burgundy as I can think of. Upon release, these showed pretty well, considering...but in just a few years, time has caught up to it. It's high toned, light, thin, green and overall recalcitrant. Structure is kinda there...though the acid seems a little out of balance (high). Quite a bit more VA than I would have expected from Lignier so this could be an off bottle but...nothing jumped out as being especially "wrong". It was just...hard to really love which is so unusual for this producer. A decent pairing with the salmon but would have been much better if it had been a more typical "Grand Chaliot". If you have any of these laying around, I would drink soon.

Very dark blackish rubi robe, nose of cranberries and dark fruit jam. Very dense, rich and extracted, but not overdone, good balance and overall a really interesting bottle.

This is some seriously crushable burgundy. Light bodied with generous red fruit and perfect acidity but still with some presence and backbone of smoke and earth on the back end. Feels like being on vacation with each sip. Love it
