Domaine Hubert Lignier
Aux Poirelots Bourgogne Passetoutgrains GAMAY-PINOT NOIR BLEND
Burgundy, France

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2020 pours a deep ruby/purple with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and signs of fine sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of pomegranate, tart plums, purple flowers, minerals, and gentle cool and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, the finish is medium. Rustic, youthful and exuberant. A wine with personality. Drink now through 2035.

Not sure why @Delectable is yelling at me that’s this is a Gamay and Pinot Noir blend, but here we are.
“Aux Poirlots” is a selection of old vine Gamay and younger Pinot Noir from the Aux Poirlots lieu dit in M-S-D. Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of several hours. The 2019 pours a dull garnet color with a translucent core; medium viscosity with light staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with funky strawberry and Montmorency cherry, black plum, dried red and purple flowers, mushroom, sous bois and pasture land. On the palate, the one is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. Loaded with rustic charm, I adore H. Lignier’s Passetoutgrain. Drink now through 2029.

Not gonna lie, this is easily one of my favorite value wines each and every year. The problem is, there’s just never enough of it. It’s versatile and delivers H. Lignier quality and style for under $30 USD. Pop and poured. Deep ruby color with a nearly opaque core. Medium viscosity. On the nose, high intensity with a touch of horse blanket, dark cherry earth, desiccated strawberry, crushed rock…so funky…gym sock funky. On the palate, initially slightly effervescent though that dissipates within 10 minutes in the glass the wine is bone dry with medium tannin, medium+ acid. The finish is long with notes of dark, sweet tart cherry, bruised strawberry and earth. Yum!

I know, I know...it’s just a Passetoutgrain. But there at Passetoutgrains and then there are Passetoutgrains. This is the latter. Lignier’s version, which now carries the name “Aux Poirelots”, is a most wonderful, lip smacking version of this rustic Bourgogne blend. Dark fruited in the Lignier style, this has a lot to offer and while it’s not a budget bottle by any stretch of the imagination, it’s an extremely tasty Burgundy for the money.
