Domaine François Carillon
Puligny-Montrachet Chardonnay
Don’t tell anyone but I kind of liked this French Chard more than the American one.

Apr 1st, 2018Lemon with dominant mineral backbone and a touch of oaky butter. Medium viscosity and straw yellow. Acidity and viscosity hit at the exact same time - providing perfect harmony, soon after joined with a subtle but lengthy finish of medium complexity showing vanilla & tacit richness - in short, the onset of perfect raciness and backbone. Perfect for “just” Puligny-Montrachet. Needs decanting and time for now. My first Carillon did not disappoint.

Mar 1st, 2019Aroma leads with a bundle of orange blossom glazed in a light caramel. On the palate the wine is crispy and angular, with broad shoulders and a slight mineral graininess. Oatfarl, green apples(!), tangerine zest, and hazelnuts. A very faint suggestion of rosemary or even green pine needles. Fascinating.

May 14th, 201813% booze, about $68, sample. In the tank for Carillon. Fat and juicy, with tons of nutty flavors and big bright acidity. Serious wine. Best enjoyed out of a plastic cup on a late night train so full it's standing room, on the way to see friends and family, in December.
