Domaine François Buffet
Les Poutures Pommard 1er Cru Pinot Noir
Pommard, Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France

Right below Rugiens and it shows instantly. Kindly and confectionary nose. Like the carnival stopped off in Pommard. Gorgeous mid season and sour cherries and stunning mineral depth. Palate is unhinged in the best way. Super sweet and confectionary but slathered in minerals and ripe tannins. Perfect balance and very very long. Surprisingly accessible for a Poutures. Unreal concentration and brightness and the sweetness lingers and lingers. The tiny berry fruit intensity is off the charts. This is outrageous. Just insane inner mouth aromas.

Nose: mid season cherry. Bright spice. Pink roses. Very floral. Lovely. As this opened more dried roses. Potpourri.
Palate : early to midsession cherries. Very fresh. The freshness of a newly released wine. Pink roses internal aromatics. Sweet liquid pink roses.
More air on the nose I get a hint of lovely library dust. More elegant dried pink roses. Amazing. Dusty pink roses.
As this opens a hint of savory. Sweet cherry fruit. Expansively delicious . Longer juicy grippy finish.
With even more air a hint of cocoa. Deeper cherry fruit. More serious. Salivatory.

Perhaps the loveliest bottle we’ve yet had from Buffet. Medium aromatics. Intense concentrated palate—herbal, cherry jolly ranchers, spice. Big acid hit. Long, refreshing, on the finish. Fabulous.

The final Buffet 19. And wow. The sun really shined on Pommard in 2019. Such a great Pommard vintage. This is a rare 1er Cru and is truly dazzling. Gorgeous nose of mid to late season black cherries, wild mint, tree bark, orange rind, herbs and spices. So complex. Gorgeous cherry syrup as well and very stoney minerals. Palate is stunning as usual for 2019 albeit a bit more initially structured than other 2019 Pommards I’ve had from Buffet. Stunning purity and compactness and the usual perfect balance even being so dense. So stoney yet elegant and pure. Super sweet fruit and a wonderful hit of opulence in the mid that opens up to a structured, stoney and very fresh finish. Clean and so pure. So much energy and just amazing finesse here. Long long finish. A pitter patter. Wow. Nose gets so much more complete and aromatic with some air. Just expansive as can be. What focus and linearity. Length here is astonishing. Brilliant sap and concentration while being delicate and elegant.
