Stunning nose. Deep, dark cherry, milk chocolate, soppy and vivid, and so deep the fruit. Tree sap, bark, mulch. What a nose. Engaging sweet fruit. So fresh and acidic. Rich and haunting. So so spot on.

17 is the recent vintage to drink now. What a wine. Firing on 85% of its cylinders. Stunning nose of white chocolate infused mid season cherries, gorgeous wet earth that is so clear and the classic Burgundian sous bous. Mashed red flowers. Dirt. Smells like a scene in nature nose. Superb palate. Energetic but also hedonistic with a lovely juxtaposition of mid season sour cherry fruit and gorgeous freshness and length. Really really long. Excellent nimbleness and so so pure. Exceptional. Tannins big and fine. Will track over the next few hours. Needs them.

Boisterous aromas of black and red cherries. Wonderfully fragrant and with tremendous tiny berry fruit intensity. Lovely wet earth and stunning tiny berry fruit intensity. Awesome loamy minerality. A knockout nose. Palate is rich, elegant and nimble with extraordinary fruit and sap. Round and opulent with wonderful freshness and purity. Really elegant with sweet, velvety tannins and just terrific fruit. Thrilling stuff. Buffet made epic 18’s. So long. With air some blackberry on the nose and gaminess on the palate.

Stunning nose of terrific tiny berry fruit intensity. Tweed coat. Some herbals. Classic and so old school. Ripe and gritty. Kirsch. Beautiful fruit. Floral, expansive and so detailed. I could get lost in this nose. Huge fruit on the palate and wow on the mid palate. Sweet, concentrated and elegant but man this is young. Big tannins and super juicy with black cherry and terrific freshness but obviously needs some air to get more integrated. Stoney for Volnay. Huge structure like the other Buffet wines and the fruit core is stunning and they are toothsome but man is this young and backwards and I know air will help it as the finish is insanely backwards. Nose is getting more floral with air. As it airs it gets more elegant and complete. Tremendous fruit and grip. Like a squeegee of fruit. Black and dark. And so much.

This has mega potential and is as classic a Champans as i’ve ever had. 9.4 to 9.5 with air.

Huge ebullient nose of black and red cherries. Gorgeous spice, blackberry and licorice. Lovely Stoney minerality. So Volnay. Stunningly sweet fruit. Unreal purity and freshness and so so young. Sappy and dense but also light on its feet. Raspberry cake, raspberry coulis. Good extract, purity and freshness but as this is a barrel sample it’s maybe lost a little bit. Nose is showing huge minerality and earthiness. Palate is more engaging with air. It’s more precise and juicy. Very gamey. Nose is super sick now with air. Cherry liquor. Very fresh. Palate is elegant and fresh. This is a wine for laying down. So much potential.

Gorgeous and wild nose of black and red cherries, complicated by intense earth tones, with its deep and layered signature of alluring aromas. Super floral and black raspberry after air. Licorice. Wow. Can’t stop smelling. Palate is OMG intense, with absurd fruit and tension and such unreal purity and elegance. Really elegant and such a lipstick like intensity to the sappy and fresh fruit with just unreal freshness. This is so good. Such sweet fruit and dramatic energy and freshness. Such detail and precision and an endless finish. Lovely hit of opulence in the mid palate which goes directly into amazing freshness, density and sap. This is brilliant. Big dense tannins that are so sweet and ripe. Lovely.

My first taste of Buffet since January! Right before the end of the year! Gorgeous nose. Mushroom, mint, Sous bois, mineral, very rocky, ripe but measured red cherries. Bright and deeply penetrating nose. Palate is elegant and loaded with lacey ripe and juicy tannins. Sweet fruit and so elegant. Wonderful Champans. Palate staining and sappy finish. So pure. Hit of licorice and darker fruits on the finish. So long. Juicy and so so delicate. Can be drunk young but also has structure to age for 15+ years. What a finish. As this aerates it gets more concentrated and gains depth. Stunning tiny berry sweet fruited intensity.
