True Chinon in a riper vintage. Earthy red fruit with graphite and hardly any green character. Nice structure for the price. Lots of sediment, so decant.

Nov 6th, 2016Trying to drink less on weekdays but it's my birthday eve so fuck it. A pretty solid value, high-QPR Chinon! Definitely quite green and herbaceous but that's no issue for me, personally. Jalapeno oil, red pepper flakes, coriander, blackberry and raspberry sauce, plum skin, pencil shavings, and a bit of funky earth and rose petal. Relatively soft, medium body but kept lively by nice med (+) acid. Med (+) tannin. Would maybe be better with another year or two on it to integrate a bit more but still a solid example of the region and varietal typicity. Kind of like a slightly greener and somewhat less-refined but still quite solid alternative to Bernard Baudry's basic Chinon bottling. Good stuff.
