Took a while to come around but once it did it was on point.

29 bucks, 2016 vintage. Very good. 2016 is supposed to be a superlative vintage. This initially was somewhat thin on mid palate but blossomed with air. I loved the red fruit perceptible above the gamey dark fruit. Cedar and slight essence of stone. Somewhat dry tannins. This transports me to Rhône.

Difficult to separate the wine from the meal (skillet bone-in ribeye, with everything), but comes across as fruity, lush, but a little one-dimensional. Very much in the direction of what I like, but was hoping for a bit more than just berry and soil. Recall liking before. Reviews indicate that it might have lost a little acid and tannin. Still, good.

Ripe red fruit, earthiness, not the best structure, as the ripeness is strong and the earthiness is strong but not blended well. Still a good wine.

Deep color with gamey and toasty notes on the nose
Preserved fruit and cloves. Warm on the nose
Ripe red fruit on the palate with hints of "cold spice" including licorice and mint
