The 2018 Bourgueil Jour de Soif (Cabernet Franc) is bold, pungent and racy. I very much like the energy here. Inky dark fruit, savory herbs, lavender and cloves give this dark, powerful Bourgeuil so much character. In the glass, the 2018 is dense and full of personality, not to mention incredibly delicious. Borgueils are creeping up in alcohol, as I remember this as a lighter affair in previous vintages. Still, a precocious 14$ wine, with classic cab franc dimensions but now with a thicker, richer mouthfeel. Given how Beaujo has crossed the 20$ demarcation border for some time, my go to summer mid week choice.

Someone said natural. Think this is organic farming but I don’t think this is natural wine. Pierre Gauthier, almost 40 acres of Clay/Limestone Tufa in Benais outside of Bourgeuil. Probably just over $25-$30retail, $45-$60 on a wine list. Smoking good. The composite rating here is insanely low for the QPR. Everyone should be drinking these wines. This is a great wine in the grand scheme of things, it’s all about perspective. Entry level wine, the Jour de Soif has no oak, bright fruit, amazing green edge. There is a wet tobacco thing. Classic wine! Love it.

High fruit, low acid, not a tannin in sight, as would be expected. But it la led the freshness I enjoy so much in Loire and Beaujolais. Was good enough, but I had higher expectations.

Cherry, violet, green herbs, Flintstone vitamins, graphite. Red fruit, bright acidity, firm, slightly course tannin, good length. Textbook stuff...wait, how is this 14.1 %? Well played.
