Clos des Billards Saint-Amour Gamay

American geography ignoramus that I am, little did I know that the Northernmost tip of the Rhone- Cote Rotie- is the kissing cousin of Beaujolais. St. Amour is more midpoint, but has that great granite terroir which makes this long standing Cru Bojo (& under 20$) a perennial fave. It’s that mineral tautness I love.

rich fuzzy plummy yet “hollow” dark berries a roots n herbs

Valentine's Day wine. Totally Saint-Amour.

Some kind of beautiful, Saint-Amour, wish we had access to more compelling examples.

Plum, cherry, leather, and pepper. Lots of acid and tannin.

Loved first bottle. 2nd not as much. Need to give another try.

medium body, fruit foreward, complex and delicious

pretty soft red wine. smoke and wood on the nose with soft chery and plum notes on the tongue with very enjoyable lingering tannins. probably best after aged 5-8 years. very lovely wine

Great wine!

Intense earthy nose. Mild fruit and a kick of pepper comes through. Slightly acidic. Nice dry finish. Very well balanced.
