2011 vintage. Very ripe fruit and too much heavy toast in the barrels. One thing I love about cab franc in the Loire is the potential for elegance. This is a bit too big and clumsy for me. It is a modern Chinon pushing beyond the varietal character and into blue fruit. The oak brings some smokey and chocolate notes to the party along with some astringent tannin. Merely okay for $20

Mar 28th, 2016Thanks to all the talk lately about Cabernet Franc made me want to open another Loire beauty. On the nose I am getting cherry, raspberry, currant, a chalky note, graphite, and some pepper. The palate finds very expressive, rasperry, plum, the typical vegetal notes, bell pepper, firm tannins, and good acidity. Another good Cab Franc from the Loire. Bought for around $ 13.99.
