A legendary winemaker showing all of his skills. Still ripe but nervous acid; firm tannin but layers of silk. One more in the cellar that will have to wait another five years.

Solid Volnay style .. Tough year and it shows. Muted fruit and limited depth. The 97' showed mature red/black raspberry but a limited finish. Hoped for more, I think it may just be past it's prime.
