Domaine de Marcoux
Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend
Shocker of the night. Complex, dense, aromatic. Great wine for an underwhelming vintage

Jul 15th, 2018The profile of the 2011 Marcoux Châteauneuf-du-Pape screams Grenache, and so it was gratifying to read that the blend is indeed 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre, 7% Syrah and 3% Cincault, and the vines are old, averaging 50 years or more. The result is a wine with pronounced red fruit aromas, macerated strawberries and black cherries accentuated by spice, violets and earth. The palate is quite similar to the nose, it's medium-bodied and supple, with lots of mineral verve and a spicy hit of
white pepper on the finish.

A little weak on the finish. Like a baseball swing that ends on impact.

1 person found it helpfulJan 31st, 2014Elegant and lofty CNDP. Great example of the finesse that these wines can have despite their brooding personalities. The Grenache shines through, loads of cooked red fruit, garrigue, and cool herbal hints. Love the sense of earth with its stoney/smokey character. Sexy and upfront fruit then moves over to a finish laden with provencal herbs, lavender, and herbal spice. Structurally a full and present wine with balanced tannin and relatively fresh acidity. Day 2: much more flesh and savory. Deeply fruited with dark licorice, coffee, herbs. Crazy how heavy this got with a day to wake up.

Apr 21st, 2017Uber young but still delicious. Spicy, juicy layered, everything good #chateauneufdupape is with a little extra pop to make it special. Drink now or wait, you won't be sorry. #bastilleday
