Amazingly well balanced for 14.5 abv. Not a hint of alcohol on the nose or palate, just oily texture with distinct Syrah notes of olive, black fruit, spice, violets and superbly well integrated acidity. Cool climate Syrah from CA and a steal at $20

The "weeknight" Syrah; declassified lots add complications to a backbone of balanced fruit grown by Markus & Liz Bokisch in the rolling Clements Hills appellation. Raspberry bush, lavendar and peppered bacon. A prelude to the unreleased 2011 High Slopes & DTR.

At the end of a week in a big empty house in Corvallis, this really transports me back to Davis. Black currant dominates, but just underneath I get sage, lavender, eucalyptus and that olivey funk that I love so much from high-altitude Cal Syrah. Home wine.
