Domaine de la Janasse
Prestige Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc
This is a beautiful wine that is both opulent in the breadth of Ira flavors and aromas yet restrained in its compact nature at this point. Clocks in at 14%abv and is filled with pear, white peach, candied orange and lemon peel and a lush wave of white flowers. Borders on being full-bodied but a delight to drink. Lovely now it will only get more complex with age

Feb 11th, 2020Definitely not your average wine, but I think you have to understand typicity to get it.
70% Roussanne, 15% Grenache Blanc, 15% Clairette, the latter two 60+ year old vines
The very rare Janasse "Prestige" Blanc, only made in the best vintages such as we have here with the 2007.
Lisa guessed LdH at first. It's no wonder most critics say drink 2-3 years as that's about the size of the window before this starts to set it.
Deep gold in color, the nose is deeply penetrating, rich but fresh, with a line of salt and toasted almonds and apple skin (oxidative).
Complex on the palate, not as viscous as I was expecting, but deeply flavored and layered, not fully there, but starting to oxidize as some older CdP blanc can tend to. Temperature is important, as it warmed up more flavors and aromas came to the fore.
