Domaine Courbis
Saint-Joseph Syrah La Cotte Sud
Perhaps the best of the St. Josephs of our run lately. Very understated and subtle, this wine took some time and coaxing to show its elegant black pepper and fine grained tannin. It was a great drink with the fatted calf duck crepenets!

Apr 29th, 2016Ash, tart black fruit, rosemary, black peppercorns. Bright acidity and firm tannins but a little thin on the finish.

Feb 14th, 202430+ minute decant. Dark purple, almost black color. Not much in the way of nose. Dark, black fruit and caramel on the palate. An absolute behemoth of a wine. Probably drinking way too young. I would have thought the alcohol was higher than 14.5%. That being said, the texture didn’t resemble any of the above, as it was very soft. Medium minus finish. Just not my style of wine.
