Cuvée Vieilles Vignes Musigny Grand Cru Pinot Noir

A baby. 20 years old and still impenetrable.

Wonderful purity and depth of fruit. Lucious mouthfeel. Tart and exceptional depth... Ooh.

(tasted from a 375-milliter bottle): Very bright red with ruby tones; looks like a young wine. Deep, dark red and black fruit aromas are complicated by cinnamon, black pepper, roast coffee and a hint of truffley underbrush. Wonderfully rich but classy and reserved, and not a bit heavy. Utterly silky, plush, energetic wine with a relaxed quality to its lively dark fruit and dark chocolate flavors. Finishes classically dry, with beautifully buffered tannins and captivating building sweetness. Amazingly, this 375-milliliter bottle seems still short of its peak, so I would imagine that well-stored 750s still need time. I'd guess 2022-2042 for 750s. (Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, March 2018)

Not a great bottle. Tremendous concentration but unfocused aromatics. Need to add a ? To this scale. :)

Nothing better. Took a while to really open it up but it was great!

Slow over for two hours then 30 minutes in the fridge then one hour in the decanter and served for dinner. Got more elegant as time passed. Classic Musigny

We had 2 bottles of this wine side by side. One from an East Coast Importer and the other from the West Coast. The East Coast wine seemed more open earlier, but both showed well. Some had this as WOTN.

Still a bit of a brut. opened up nicely over an hour, but better to wait several years.
