Today I have decided to go to my cellar and pull the 2012 Domaine Berrien Cellars Crown of Cab. One of the best winery's in Southwest Michigan if not the best. This is a Bordeaux blend of 40% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec. What a wine from Wally Mauer and the Domaine Berrien winery.

On the nose there is black cherry, blackberry, black plum, black currant, anise, violet, baking spice and crushed gravel.

On the palate I am getting black cherry, blackberries, green bell pepper, black currant, violet, black pepper, graphite and earth.

This wine is full bodied with a smooth mouthfeel, medium to medium + acidity and medium + grippy mouthcoating tannins that leaves you with a long black fruit woodsy finish. What a wonderful Sunday wine. This winery in Southwest Michigan is my absolute favorite and can compete with any California winery out there. I hope everyone's weekend has been an eventful one. Please stay safe and healthy and have a wonderful week ahead. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

This afternoon a good friend and I shared the 2011 Domaine Berrien Cellars Crown of Cab. The wine is a blend of 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 9% Petit Verdot and 4% Malbec. Your classic Bordeaux blend and again from my favorite winery in Southwest Michigan.

On the nose you will find black cherry, black raspberry, black currant, licorice, herbs, spice and a nice earth component.

The palate brings forth the dark fruit, black cherry, black raspberry, black currant, green bell pepper, menthol, black licorice, spice, an herbal note and a nice earthy loam.

The wine is full bodied with medium + acidity and medium + sandy tannins that leads to a long clean dark fruit finish. What a pleasant and surprising experience we enjoyed this afternoon. I loved how this wine has developed over time and given another 5 to 10 years it will continue to gracefully age. This is Domaine Barrien's flagship wine and for the price you can't beat it. Enjoy the rest of the weekend and have a great week ahead. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

2011 Domaine Berrien Cellars 'Crown of Cab' Bordeaux Style Blend, Lake Michigan Shore. Blend of all 5 major Bordeaux red grapes with notes of black cherry and cassis intertwined with mocha dust, espresso bean and vanilla spice. Soft and plush. #wine #sommelier

One of my absolute favorite wine cellars. Not a Merlot or Malbec lover but with 28% cab Sauvignon and 35% cab franc it is light and beautiful - almost like a Pinot.

Just tried this wine with a little bit of age on it (they are currently selling the 2012). Big dark fruits, toasted almonds, black pepper, cassis, smokey goodness, mellow tannins. Really enjoyable with a medium rare steak!
