La Maltroie Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay

The 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru has quite an austere bouquet, backward and sultry at first, then hints of lemon zest, Conference pear and light earthy aromas emerging with time. The fresh, saline palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. Initially, it misses a little finesse and precision toward the lemongrass-tinged finish, but returning after 10 minutes, I find a degree of elegance and harmony that wins me over. Fresh, intense and deep. Not at all fat or overly ripe as 2014 shows its laser acidity, superb balance and lovely purity. Some reduction, white peach, Asian pear, citrus zest and minerals. Excellent weight on the midpalate and a long and balanced finish. Wonderful.

Aged to the edge.
Smells like beeswax and hazelnut meat, still tastes so fresh!

Juicy acid with great delicacy to match what is in reality a very full bodies wine. A gift from Alex when we visited back in 2009.

Racy and detailed as you'd expect from the vintage and the producer.
