Always so good. 14 is a good vintage for reds but not 15 or even 16 but Gripa has produced another terrific generic St. Joseph. Nose of fine tobacco, berry fruit, some tar, some oozy blackberry and red berry fruit. But refined and all in check. Not opulent. Pretty. Classic. Big, juicy and deep with lovely balance and freshness. Everything just in place. Not the heaviest Gripa like 13/15/16 but gorgeous nonetheless. Still youthful and ideally will be better in 2-3 years. Clearly needs 45 minutes to an hour if drunk now.

Nose: lovely lilacs. Hints of graphite.
Palate: perfect intense mid season cherry. Spice. Graphite. Elegant licorice. Delicious. Beautiful sweet fruit.

Nose is graphite.
Palate - silky texture. Graphite blended with blackberry.
Let’s see how this develops.
As this opens it’s definitely a graphite blackberry melange kind of thing. Good grip. Quite focused. Cerebral in a sense. Like this silky almost lilac extract on the palate.
If I had this blind I’d guess st jo on the nose and cote rotie on the palate.
