Oxidative - bruised and baked apple, marzipan, cider, dried apricot, Botrytis, green apple, green plum, SALINITY ON THE PALATE!! Musk, curry spices. Medium acidity, full body. I thought it was either Sherry or white Rioja. Then I was reminded that no American oak would have steered me away from Rioja and Botrytis would have steered me away from both. Another possibility is Savennieres but the acidity would have been much higher than this. Turns out it’s a 2012 EngelBerg Pinot Gris!!! Marl-limestone soils.

Smooth, medium bodied, opens up as a rose and rounds out like a Pinot once allowed to breathe, making it a very flexible bottle to pair with fish, vegetables, and meats - while also offering a full enough savory mouthfeel to drink on its own.
