This is the 2019 Domaine Ballorin Marsannay “Les Amoureux.” It’s yet another value-priced 2019 that is dangerously delicious. Nose is the pure essence of Pinot Noir. Vibrant, sappy, ripe dark cherries, a musky, sweet note of violets, and a slight moist humus (not hummus) note. Just captivating. In the mouth, it’s more youthful and tightly wound than the nose would suggest. There’s an initial whack of sexy Pinot fruit, but it tightens up fast, with zingy acids and fine-grained chalky tannins. Long finish. This will easily improve over the next few years. Impressive!
