One of my favorite producers, Anne Gros. This 2001 Clos Vougeot was singing with cardamom, dried thyme but overall it sings of pristine red cherry and raspberry fruit that is intense yet focused.

May 8th, 2016Pure cherry and plum fruit with a dash of spice, still a little tight, but showing the elegant depth of the best of 2001 Burgundy.

Dec 29th, 2018A bit green & steamy at first, but just what you'd expect after about 30 minutes. Beautiful, explosive concentration, Long, Long finish. More please.

Jul 9th, 2016what a contrast. First up, 1993 Clavelier Brûlées VV, then 01 Anne Gros Clos Vougeot le Grand Maupertui. Clavelier’s wine was gorgeous, sous bois and red fruits, with some dark fruits intertwined, tannins resolved, good acidity, spice, beautiful silky texture, just super aged red Burgundy. Gros’ wine was dark in color, a pretty nose of dark fruits, powerful, very Cabernet-like, heavy-handed, oak visible, tannic, kind of plodding. Comparing the two is like comparing a Clydesdale to a thoroughbred. Give me the Clavelier any day.
